Lynne Fenwick - About me
Professional Expertise Meets Lived Experience
Choosing a therapist is a deeply personal decision. You want someone who not only understands the clinical theory of human behaviour, but who also understands the "messy" reality of navigating life’s most difficult transitions.
I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, holding a Bachelor of Psychological Science and Counselling from the Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP). While my academic training provides the foundation for my practice, my true specialty in Couples and Relationship Counselling is informed by a lifetime of resilience, personal growth, and a deep understanding of what it takes to rebuild.
A Journey of Resilience
My path to becoming a therapist wasn't linear; it was forged through significant life changes. At 33, I immigrated from South Africa to Australia with my then-husband and our three young children—aged eight, five, and just eighteen months.
Starting over in a new country without the safety net of extended family or established friendships is an immense undertaking. I have personally navigated:
The Stress of Immigration: Managing the emotional and logistical toll of moving a family across the world.
Major Life Transitions: Helping children settle into new schools and cultures while building a support network from scratch.
Relationship Challenges: Navigating the breakdown of a marriage under the pressure of isolation and financial hardship.
Career Transformation: Putting myself through university as a mature-age student to follow my passion for helping others.
I believe that a past divorce does not diminish a therapist's ability to advise on relationships—rather, it enhances it. It provides a profound, first-hand understanding of the bravery required to face hardship, the complexities of grief, and the ultimate reward of finding happiness again.
Life Today: The Blended Family
I have now been happily remarried for over 10 years. My life is beautifully full as I navigate the joys and nuances of a large, blended family. With three children, two stepchildren, and nine grandchildren ranging from newborns to young teenagers, I am constantly immersed in the very dynamics I help my clients manage: communication, boundaries, and the enduring power of connection.
My Approach
My goal is to be a steady, approachable, and non-judgmental guide for you and your partner. I combine evidence-based psychological strategies with a wealth of real-world wisdom. Whether you are facing a period of high stress, navigating a major life transition, or looking to strengthen your bond, I offer a space where you will feel seen, heard, and—most importantly—understood.
"I don't just work from a textbook; I work from the heart of someone who has walked the path of transformation."
